Winning the Lottery

I imagine the title of this post is a little misleading. No, I did not win THE lottery. I did, however, win A lottery. Last week, I entered the lottery to be selected to run in the coveted Peachtree Road Race. It is a very famous race with 60,000 participant slots. Many of those slots are filled with previous racers and Atlanta Track Club members and then the rest are selected by a random lottery. After patiently waiting all week and weekend long, at 7 o'clock this morning I checked my gmail to find that I have been selected...I am running the Peachtree on July 4th, 2013 with 59,999 others!

I will be running with several of my friends/running buddies. Our entries were actually all tied together in a team and our team was selected to run. I know that at the very least, my usual partner in running crime, Jessica, will be running with me. You may recognize her from such events as: The Hot Chocolate 5K, Area 13.1, and the Spooktacular Chase. In fact, she has run every race with me except the Noteworthy 5K and I am so grateful that she has. I look forward to many more runs with her!

Anyway, I just thought I'd pass on the news. My very first 10K will be one of the most coveted races in the Southeast!!

Jogging AND Logging

Today was a good day (once I was off from work). I arrived home and piddled around, helping Gabriel with his homework. Kindergarten homework...LOTS of it!! Thank goodness they are on spring break in a couple of weeks and they *hopefully* won't have any homework. Anyway, I printed off a few worksheets for the "family binder" that I am working on. It includes a weekly schedule sheet for activities/things to do and then some pages with menus and grocery lists. I already prepare menus and grocery lists, but it will be nice to have everything in one place. Plus, you can never go wrong with more organization or calendars!!

I had texted my friend, Jenni, yesterday to see if she wanted to run with me today. I was worried about the weather because it was pouring down rain on my way to work. I even passes a 5K going on and the people running looked miserable and soaked. We planned on running at 5pm and I was just certain that we would be rained out, but it stopped raining around 11am and it didn't start back up at all.

Jenni just had a baby in January, so now is the first time that she has been willing able to run with me postpartum. That being said, we did a run/walk combo. I think she did a great job for her first heavy exercise in almost a year. We ended up totaling two and a half miles in under an hour and I'm pretty sure that today was the start of weekly long runs for us for now on. She signed up for the Peachtree Road Race lottery with me and some other friends and she is planning on running the half with me in August, so we will need those long runs under our belts!

The Atlanta 5K in Paradise

So sorry! I have been so busy lately that sitting down to blog has just not been a possibility! I have been logging my food every single day this month and it is officially half over, so I'm doing GREAT with this "challenge."

Last Saturday, when the time changed, I ran the 5K in Paradise. It was sponsored by the same folks that brought us the fun race, The Anything is Possible 5K. Same(ish) course, same start time. I have to tell you, for some reason, running through time forward is a lot more tiring than running through time and gaining an hour! Of course, that could be because my friends and I decided to pass the time by playing Just Dance on the XBox Kinnect! It was so much fun and it was actually a great warm up for the race. I never had any problems with my legs or feet while I was running.

This time, the course was a repeated loop around the mall. That part wasn't so bad. The only things I would change about this race are: 1) the shirt. I love technical shirts and this one was a plain tee 2) the after-party was not as much fun as the last race and the food vendors were not as great.

Overall, it was a good race and I enjoyed running it. If I know these sponsors, it will be a great race in years to come!

I'm Still Logging...Wish I Was Jogging

Five days in to March and I'm still logging my food!!! I went a tiny bit over my calories yesterday, but I'm OK with that. I'm not letting the number on the scale which hasn't moved AT ALL bother me. I know it takes time for the body to start showing that change. In the meantime, I could really help myself out by getting in some stinkin exercise, but that just isn't happening right now.

I will, however, be running 3.1 miles on Saturday night/Sunday morning as the time "springs forward." This is race weekend. The 5K in Paradise is here!!! Yay!!! I really, really, REALLY love the course of this race. I have never run a better course and for that reason, I will continue to run these races for as long as they offer them!

The new job is going great. I am really starting to get the hang of the computer and the way they do things. I'm still just enjoying how laid back everything is!

Sorry that this post is both choppy and brief, but I am sleepy and cold. Time for a shower and bed!!

March Logging

I would like to start this post by saying, "Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!" His stories live on in the hearts of children and adults alike. I don't know a single person who doesn't enjoy a Seuss rhyme.

Now, on to other things. I'm really enjoying my new job. I still miss some of my old co-workers, but I don't dislike any of my new ones. They all seem to be good people. Also, it is a MUCH more laid back environment, so my stress level has dropped tremendously. I hope it continues to go well. I am very optimistic!

I did not accomplish my February goal of 20 Zumba workouts. I really didn't beat myself up over it. I had, as usual, a lot going on in my life and, yet again, working out went on the back burner. I did begin my March challenge of logging all food on MyFitnessPal yesterday and I am happy to report that I have continued to log even today! I have to say that logging all of my food again has caused me to be a little more accountable of what is going in my mouth and I have managed to stay under my calorie goal for the past two days. Perhaps this is the month that I will get back on track mentally and perhaps I will also lose some pounds along the way!

The 5K in Paradise is one week from today. I have run on the treadmill a couple of times and I have to say that I am REALLY out of shape and I am hoping and praying that I don't have a longer time than my last time on this course. I am hoping to get my act together soon because I want to repeat the half marathon again this August with proper training and hydration. I have to decide soon if I am up for it as registration has already begun and there are a limited number of spots open.
